PROUDLY PRESENTS

Mixed Signals from Signal Hill

or

MC900150899[1]

Black Gold and the Silver Screen

By the authors of “Zorro Rides Again”

The year is 1921, and the Jazz Age is just beginning. Suzy and her father are happily farming on Signal Hill, when they are invaded from two directions: an oil prospector who wants their land and a silent film company that finds peril in every pasture.

Characters include two low-down, no-good villains, two sweet and feisty heroines and a brave, if not too bright, hero. Add a foggy-headed boxer, Laurel and Hardy, the Keystone Kops, and a bevy of Bathing Beauties, and you have a slapstick comedy complete with chases, damsels in distress and gushing oil wells.

Put on your glad rags and Charleston with us as we paint the town - that is, Long Beach - red!

PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION

AUDITION PIECE

  • No audition piece required for this show!

AUDITION ATTIRE
  • Be prepared to move.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes! No sandals or flip-flops! No boots or Uggs!

FORMS
Please complete your audition paperwork (Audition form, Calendar, Policy Agreement) or be prepared to do so at the audition. Please note that a parent or legal guardian's signature is required.

Audition Forms will be available on June 1.

Audition Form

  • Be sure to fill out the questions about what roles you will accept. We understand that some of you have limited time and can only commit to a lead or featured role. Please be honest so we do not cast you in a role and have to recast that role later.
  • Photos help us remember who you are! Attach a photo to your audition form. School photos are great. If you do not have one, don't worry! We will have a photographer at the audition.

Calendar

  • Please complete the calendar, indicating all known conflicts. Please read our attendance policy carefully.

Policy Agreement

  • Please read carefully and feel free to contact us by email at info@GO-FAME.org if you have any questions.
  • Please sign and date then bring the completed forms to the auditions.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Details will be posted by June 1.
For more information, please contact Elaine Zofrea, GO-FAME’s Artistic Director, at ezofrea@GO-FAME.org

A Letter from the Director
First, know that the people at the desk watching you want to cast you! We have all been on the other side of the table and we applaud your bravery.

I can't wait to see our past performers and meet our future ones at the auditions. All the information you need is here on our website but I wanted to give you a few tips.

BE THERE:
The most important thing is to show up. We can't cast you unless we meet you and see what you can do.

BE HAPPY:
Show us how much you love to do shows. A smile goes a long way to cover forgotten words and missed notes. Pick a song you like to sing. It will show in your audition.

BE PREPARED:
Practice, practice, practice! Sing to yourself, your friends and your family. Memorize the words. Be sure to practice with the music you bring.

BE READY TO HAVE FUN:
When learning the dance if you don't have dance experience, just pretend you are playing WII or Kinect with your friends. We are looking for enthusiastic learners as well as experienced dancers.

BE SUPPORTIVE OF YOUR FELLOW ACTORS:
We work as a group in theater and every role is important. I like to see actors that work well together.

BE PROUD:
You did it! Be proud of yourself!

SUMMARY OF GENERAL INFORMATION AND POLICIES

To read our complete General Information and Policies, click HERE.

  • Auditions are free of charge and open to the public. No appointment necessary!
  • If you are cast, the participation fee is $200 and covers instruction, scripts, rehearsal CD, a show t-shirt, insurance and cast party. For families with 3 or more performers in the cast, a discounted rate of $100 is available for the third and subsequent siblings.
  • You will also need to write a $150 volunteer deposit check. This check will be shredded at the end of the show if all your volunteer commitments are met. Information about your volunteer obligations is detailed below.
  • We are unable to cast auditioners who have too many conflicts. Last minute conflicts such as weddings, funerals, championship playoffs may be excused if submitted in writing to the director. Last-minute absences that will not be approved include: trips to Disneyland, parties, play dates, dates, and out-of-town guests. Unexcused or Last-minute Absences may result in a cast member being removed from his/her lead part or removed from the scene rehearsed while absent. Please call the director at least 30 minutes before rehearsal start time if your child is ill and will miss rehearsal.
  • Volunteer Commitment: GO-FAME is a nonprofit organization that relies on volunteers to keep our program affordable to all. In order to do that, your required volunteer commitment has three parts:
    1. PRE-SHOW: 15 hours of preshow work. There are many pre-show opportunities to choose from including costumes, props, set construction and painting, ticket sales, marketing and more.
    2. SHOW DAY: To work at least 2 show day shifts. Performance shifts include ushering, cast member supervision, set crew, box office and more.
    3. LOAD-IN/STRIKE: Each family is asked to help with either Load-In (when we set up at the University Theatre) or Strike (when we take everything out of the University Theatre).

If you have more than 1 performer in the show, we ask you to work an additional either 5 preshow hours or 1 additional show shift.
Parents will sign up for volunteer positions as soon as possible.
GO-FAME encourages you to be a part of your child's theatre experience. But we understand that work and family commitments may make this impossible. If you are unable to complete the hours outlined above, please contact Kathy as soon as possible and we will use your deposit check to hire help.

  • Behavior Policy: Our behavior policy is simple. We expect cast members to treat each other and the adults working with them with respect. We follow the same rules as the Long Beach Unified School District. If it is not allowed at school, it is not allowed here.

Please contact us if you have any questions: info@GO-FAME.org
